Humility, humble

    From Wiki Maria Valtorta
    Humility, by G Argenti, 1866.
"Humility is the «ground» on which other Virtues flourish. Humility is an attitude of truth towards God, others and oneself; it opposes Pride, self-sufficiency, arrogance. Relying on the Grace of God[1], humility leads us to love and allows love of God, love of the Neighbor, and love of oneself to be united all together. The Gospel presents it to us as the fundamental virtue ([2]-[3]-[4])."

In "The Gospel as It Was Revealed to Me"

    • Know how to recognize that you have failed, even by a simple thought [...] And humility even more difficult: the one that knows how to keep Hidden the wonders of God within us.[5]
    • Be humble. You cannot blame your Master for not being humble. I give you the example. Act as I act. Be humble, gentle, patient. This is how the world is conquered, not by Violence and force.[6]

    • Repentance is a form of love. One who repents says to God through repentance: "I cannot remain under the threat of Your wrath, because I love You and I want to be loved".[8]
    • There is no sin that God does not forgive if the sinner is truly repentant.[9]
    • Even sorrow for a mistake made, which afflicts you because through this mistake you displeased God, must be peaceful, comforted by humility and trust. Despondency, self-reproach is always a sign of Pride, and also of distrust.
If someone is humble, he knows that he is a poor man subject to the miseries of the flesh which sometimes triumphs. If someone is humble, he trusts not so much in himself as in God and remains calm, even in defeat, saying: "Forgive me, Father. I know You know my weakness which sometimes prevails. I believe You have pity on me. I have firm confidence that You will help me in the future even more than before, God to whom I give so little satisfaction."
And be neither indifferent nor stingy with the Goods of God. Give of what you have in wisdom and virtue. Be active in spiritual things as men are active in matters of the flesh.[10]
    • In a great success, do not glorify yourself as if the merit belonged only to you.[11]
    • Be humble, gentle, patient. This is how the world is conquered, not by Violence and force.[12]
    • Two great Virtues that lead the Soul to charity: Humility and silence.[13]
    • To step aside to let God act.[14]
    • Remain humble, but without humiliating yourself. To humiliate oneself is still Pride.[15]
    • Man forgets that true value hides beneath modest appearances while worthlessness disguises itself as powerful beings to impose themselves on the crowd.[16]
    • See how necessary humility is to have a prompt faith and how one is rewarded for knowing how to To Believe, even against contrary appearances.[17]
    • The Lord allowed you to be subject to these needs of the flesh to make you humble, always more humble, and ever more filled with compassion for your neighbors.[18]
